Often those looking for advice on how to grow Instagram followers find themselves confused by a series of content that basically explains how to buy them.

The truth is that there are some small practical precautions that make Instagram's algorithm favor us and not least, that whoever happens upon our content finds us interesting enough to click on follow. Post type, frequency and hashtags are some of the points you should take care of.

Define who you are and why someone should follow you

It may seem trivial, but in order to grow your Instagram followers, it is first and foremost essential to offer a good product. Why would someone follow you? Think of your account as a magazine. What is it about? Fashion? trip? Your lifestyle?

Whatever the answer is, respect it and make it clear in your bio and posts. Profiles where everything doesn't make sense only make sense for famous people or if it's your private profile where you don't need to grow followers.

Take care of the quality of what you post

No blurry photos, distorted horizons, dark or "dirty" images. The first impression of a feed is critical to getting someone to follow us.

Prefer vertical content over horizontal or square content

We all know that the most beautiful photos are often the horizontal ones, but this is not the case on Instagram. Give yourself a break and post vertical content. Because visually they are "bigger".

Distinguish the content of posts from that story

In the posts you need to maintain a clearer editorial line, with stories you can expand the topics, present yourself in a more natural way or show something from your life that maybe has nothing to do with your profile. If the post is the topic of your profile, the story is you. Use them to make yourself more popular with your followers.

Use geolocation and hashtags (but choose well)

It's very important to use hashtags to be found by those who don't follow us yet, but it's pointless to use ones that are extremely generic or that don't represent our content or our profile in general. To verify the actual usage of a hashtag, try searching for it. If you open a page with different and possible content that has nothing to do with the topic it should theoretically refer to, don't use it.

Reply to comments

The more a piece of content generates interaction (be it likes or comments), the more the algorithm will favor it and you. Try to create comments on what you post (both in the post and in the story, using interactive stickers) and try to always reply to everyone.

Alternate photos and videos

It's no secret that Instagram's algorithm currently favors videos and Reels. Alternate them with pictures. There's no need for cinematic special effects, especially if they're not your thing. But if you want to grow your followers, go for it.

How often do you post?

The rule dictates that you post one content per day in the feed, of which 1 or 2 per week will be reels and 5/8 clips per day in the story, to always be kept active in 24 hours.

Once you've done that, schedule one live per month. It could be a Q&A with your followers, a window into your life at a specific event, or a shared live with a few guests.
